Where to Ski in New Zealand

The places that you find in New Zealand are truly a winter wonderland of snowcapped mountains, ranges, and Alpine atmosphere. The place to go when you want to ski is located in the New Zealand mountain ranges. First let’s explore Queenstown in the South Island region of New Zealand. This is a wonderment of beautiful snowcapped mountains that provides skiing and snowboarding for the beginner to those that are well experienced on skis’. You only need to take a flight out of one of the major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane to land in Queenstown where you will be able to ski on one of their mountains. The Coronet Peak or The Remarkable is well equipped to handle those who are expert skiers or provide a good place for the beginners. The Remarkable is well known for providing the type of atmosphere that is unique for families. They cater to children who are from three months to seventeen years of age.

Then you can also travel on over to Mt Hutt that is an ideal place for those who are more expert in their skiing and snowboarding. The lovely Alpine’s make for a most scenic view and provide the skier with terrific ski trails. In this area you can find other mountain ranges that will provide excellent ski terrain.

The Queenstown area is proud to boast that they have beautiful ski weather all during the season with hardly ever any bad storms. The snowcapped mountains that are part of South Island New Zealand have the altitude required for great skiing and snowboarding. Methven located just sixty minutes from Christchurch Airport is an amazing spot for a perfect holiday in the winter. This is where you can go to get away from the snow and enjoy a day of golf, horseback riding, fishing and hunting. Methven is just minutes away from the snowcapped mountains but locally you will still be able to enjoy some of the other fun things in life. Methven is known as the heartland of New Zealand. You can take in the Alpine fresh air, enjoy the excellent restaurants, bars and friendly pubs, in Methven before you hit the slopes once more.

Mt Hutt is designated as the skiing spot to hit when you are in New Zealand because it offers over 472 skiable hectares. The snow making system offers better coverage and the best surfaces for the skiers and snowboard riders. This is the mountain for ski enthusiasts because it is huge in size. The Mini Terrain Park is excellent for the novice to intermediate snowboard rider making it an exciting fun place to go.

North Island in New Zealand offers some great spots to go to do skiing. Mount Ruapehu is located in the heart of North Island. New Zealand biggest and longest ski area is located on Mount Ruapehu. This is where there are two volcano areas that can be reached with one lift pass. The two volcano mounts are Whakapapa on the north western part of the mountain, and Turoa on the south-west slope of the mountain.

North Island likes to brag that this is truly the place to go to enjoy your Christmas holiday time. It offers beautiful snowcapped mountains with skiing for the novice to the experts. There are ski schools, dedicated slow chair lifts, and an area where you can rent any equipment that you might need to ski.
